2025-11-07The Bulgarian Black Sea Maritime Coordination Element participates in NATO Exercise Dynamic Master 2025

A representative of the Bulgarian Navy’s Black Sea Maritime Coordination Element (BSMCE) is among the participants in Exercise Dynamic Master 2025, a major NATO maritime exercise hosted by the NATO Shipping Centre (NSC) at Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM) in Northwood, United Kingdom.

Held from 3 to 14 November 2025, Dynamic Master brings together experts from sixteen Allied nations to strengthen coordination between the military and the global merchant shipping community. The exercise focuses on improving understanding and cooperation under the frameworks of Naval Cooperation and Guidance for Shipping (NCAGS) and the Allied Worldwide Navigational Information System (AWNIS) – both essential elements for ensuring safe navigation and the protection of maritime trade during peace, crisis, or conflict.

The training features complex, realistic scenarios simulating maritime security challenges, including high traffic environments, cyber incidents, and threats to critical undersea infrastructure. Mobile teams have also been deployed to key European ports – Mallorca, Piraeus, Portsmouth, and Toulon – to engage with local maritime authorities and industry representatives, sharing information on NATO vigilance activities and maritime situational awareness.

Participation in Exercise Dynamic Master 25 provides the Black Sea Maritime Coordination Element with valuable experience in NATO’s procedures for civil–military coordination at sea. The Bulgarian officer’s involvement contributes to enhancing the BSMCE’s operational expertise, interoperability, and readiness to operate within the broader Allied maritime network.

Through this engagement, the Black Sea Maritime Coordination Element continues to develop its capability to support NATO operations and reinforce Bulgaria’s role in ensuring security, freedom of navigation, and the protection of maritime interests across the Alliance.

Exercise Dynamic Master 25 is led by the NATO Shipping Centre at Allied Maritime Command, with participants from Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Türkiye, and the United Kingdom.

2025-07-18Object constituting a navigational hazard

On 16 July 2025 at 20:44 LT, a vessel of the Bulgarian Navy reported a drifting debris object of unknown origin, measuring approximately 1 meter in height and 1.5 meters in length. The object was observed drifting in a north-northeasterly direction at position 42°57.883'N 028°50.223'E.
The object poses a hazard to navigation, and NAVIM No. 378/16.07.2025 has been issued accordingly.

On 17 July 2025 at 16:45 LT, at position 42°50.2'N 028°52.7'E, a semi-submerged object, likely the same as previously reported, was sighted and visually inspected. The object measured approximately 3 x 3 meters and constitutes a navigational hazard.
Visually, it appears to be a large piece of debris composed of foam, fiberglass, and colored textile straps. Approximately 1 to 1.5 meters are visible above the water surface, with the remainder submerged.
Due to the potential danger to marine traffic, NAVIM No. 385/17.07.2025 was issued.
